The God Who Faithfully Gives

By Pastor Jim Schoon

There is a wonderful song in the Christian faith entitled, “God Will Take Care of You.”   It is a song which reflects the desire of God to meet our needs.  The verses of the song speak of God being active in every situation we face.  The chorus of the song goes like this: “God will take care of you, through every day, o’er all the way.  He will take care of you…God will take care of you.”

The song reflects the truth spoken in Philippians 4:19 where the Apostle Paul writes, “And my God will meet all your needs according to His glorious riches in Jesus Christ.”

As we look at these two writings, we notice they speak to two aspects of the character of God.  The first relates to the giving nature of God.  It is the nature of God to give to us Himself and His resources.  He gave His Son, Jesus, to bring us into a relationship to Himself, and He gives of His resources as He shares the journey of life with us.  Our God is a giving God.

Secondly, these writings speak of the faithfulness of God.  A phrase in the chorus of the song says, “God will take care of you…through every day…” The Bible verse says, “And my God will meet all your needs…”  The meaning of these phrases is that God will be alongside of us each day of our lives, the good ones and the not-so-good, and He will pay attention to, and meet, all our needs, the light ones and the heavy ones.

As we continue to live in these cataclysmic times, it is gratifying and encouraging to know that the God we worship is watching over us, caring for us each day of the pandemic.  And He is a God who will provide for us as He addresses whatever need we have.

Be encouraged in knowing that life is bigger than our situation, and because of that we have a God who will demonstrate His character in our lives.  He will provide for us because He is a giving God; and He will be faithful to us each day of our walk with Him.

And when He is through taking care of us here, He will take care of us in His eternal home in heaven.

Prayer:  Almighty and Everlasting God, thank You for your promise to meet our needs as You care for us, and thank you for Your faithfulness to us.  Open our eyes to your giving and faithful presence in our lives.  In Jesus’ name we pray.  Amen.
