Silence

By David Yim, Youth Director

For God alone, O my soul, wait in silence, for my hope is from him. He only is my rock and my salvation, my fortress; I shall not be shaken. On God rests my salvation and my glory; my mighty rock, my refuge is God. Trust in him at all times, O people; pour out your heart before him; God is a refuge for us. (Psalm 62:5-8)

One of the most powerful ways for us to pray is through meditation. When life comes with all its struggles, work and challenges, it’s easy to forget about our God who is sovereign over all things. In these past few weeks, I found myself being occupied and anxious through this pandemic. In times I found myself with nothing to do, I simply looked for activities to fill those empty time slots. However, this past week, I’ve felt the need to stop everything that I was doing and spend time in prayer and meditation. I’ve found that silence and meditation is a powerful way to pray because it quiets my soul and places my trust in Christ. And I let my soul rest in those truths.

In these tough times, it is easy for us to lose sight of God’s presence and His goodness. In times we feel overwhelmed, anxious, tired or hopeless, let us remember how King David had a calm confidence in God’s sovereignty. Let us remember in these times that God is our salvation, our rock, our strength and our refuge. Silence at times is our greatest and most powerful weapon when the enemy tries to corrupt and detune our hearts and minds. It’s in silence when we can remember once again, that we are in God’s hands.
