Power Within

KEY PASSAGE: I CORINTHIANS 6:19-20
“Do you not know that your body is the temple of the Holy Spirit, who is in you,
whom you have received from God? You are not your own; you were bought with a price…”
Ralph Waldo Emerson is credited with saying, “What lies behind you and what lies
ahead of you pales in comparison to what lies within you.”
Mr. Emerson is making the point that who we are is more important than the road
we have traveled, or the horizons we will reach. We cannot change the past nor
can we live in the future, but we do have within us the power to make a difference
in life today.
The Bible defines the power within us as the Holy Spirit which came into our lives
when we accepted Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior. The Holy Spirit is the very
presence of God with us, and it is that presence that gives us the power to live a
meaningful life.
This power of God within us enables us to cope with what comes our way. To
cope, not just to hang on, but to cope from a position of strength, knowing that God
is our partner in life, and He has given us the Holy Spirit to live within us.
This power of God enables us to live life with confidence, because it is God
Himself who resides within us.
This power of God enables us to conquer both challenges and problems, because
“with God, all things are possible.” As we find ourselves immersed in life, we live
knowing that God is “immersed” in us. “Your body is the temple of the Holy
Spirit, who is in you.”
As today unfolds, may you be strengthened in knowing that “You and God can
handle whatever happens.” His power is within you.
Prayer: Lord God Almighty, thank you for equipping me to deal with life
situations in a spirit of confidence and hope. I do not know what I will encounter
today, but I know you are with me and have given me your power to help me deal
with anything that comes my way. Thank you for being my partner today. I need
to walk with you. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
