PNC Updates

The Pastor Nominating Committee has completed its task

and was officially dissolved on May 3, 2020.

  • May, 2020

On Sunday, May 3, 2020 Centerville  Presbyterian Church held a congregational meeting to call our Senior Pastor candidate, Sam Knottnerus.  The membership of the church overwhelmingly approved Pastor Sam to be our next Senior Pastor.  With great joy and thanksgiving we sing praises to the Lord!

In addition to the approval of the Senior Pastor candidate, the Pastor Nominating Committee was officially dissolved.

The Pastor Nominating Committee would like to thank the entire congregation for your endless prayers and words of support.  We look forward to the great work the Lord will do through the eager hands of our church.  Let God be praised!

  • APRIL, 2020

    Greetings Centerville Presbyterian Family,

We are writing to you on behalf of the CPC Session and the Pastor Nominating Committee (PNC).  We pray that you all have been doing well while you have been sheltering at home.  The Elders of the church have been meeting weekly to pray and discuss how God is continuing to lead this church forward.  In addition, the PNC has continued to meet, and work with the EPC regarding a candidate for the church.  We had received news that the local schools will stay closed through the end of the school year.  As a result, the church leadership has felt the need to make plans to help us all stay connected in real community for as long as we need.

One door that the Lord has opened for us is to stay connected is online.  Many members of the church have already been a part of prayer meetings, small group chats, Session meetings, staff meetings, and all sorts of other online gatherings via Zoom.  We know many of you are not yet familiar with Zoom or might have even heard some frustrations people have had using it.  The church staff along with members of Session and the PNC have been investigating the online communication platform and feel that it is a great and safe opportunity for us to stay connected as a community.  Zoom has just recently added some protections, including passwords, for user’s protection, and our own hosts can help to prevent problems.

In a joint effort between Session and the Pastor Nominating Committee, we are moving forward to get everyone able to use Zoom either by cell phone, computer, tablet, iPad, laptop, or even just a dial up phone!  We have formed a Zoom Team, headed up by Pastor Dennis Yim, to walk everyone through the steps needed to get you up and running on this free service.

And here’s the exciting part, this will allow you to be a part of live Zoom Sunday Services, and even online opportunities to meet our Senior Pastor Candidate and be a part of congregational meetings. (Once we have confirmation from the EPC, we can share more information and dates regarding our candidate).

We will start offering Live Worship Services VIA ZOOM this Easter Sunday at 10:30 am!  (Meeting will open up at 10:10).  Zoom services are not perfect and not the same experience as watching a professional pre-recorded video, but they are better because you’ll get to see fellow brothers and sisters of CPC!  They will allow you to be a part of a live experience, with prayers, a sermon, and even some simple worship songs.  We hope you’ll be eager to join with us in this new adventure.  If you are unable to join us live this Sunday, videos of the service will be available on our website after the service.

We will be posting the information on how to join on our website at We look forward to worshipping together with you!

    United we stand in Christ,

CPC Pastor Nominating Committee & Board of Elders

  • March, 2020

Pray for the future pastor and his family to have absolute certainty in their sense of call to our church. He must know God’s direction. Pray also for protection from the evil one and for our future lead pastor and his family.

Romans 12:1-2    Therefore, I urge you, brothers and sisters, in view of God’s mercy, to offer your bodies as a living sacrifice, holy and pleasing to God—this is your true and proper worship. 2 Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God’s will is—his good, pleasing and perfect will.

Ephesians 6:16  In addition to all this, take up the shield of faith, with which you can extinguish all the flaming arrows of the evil one.

  • February, 2020

Pray that we will patiently await God's timing and settle for nothing less than His perfect will.  Ask God for His mercy in giving us a true man of God and a great leader.

Hebrews 6:12  "We do not want you to become lazy, but to imitate those who through faith and patience inherit what has been promised.”

The PNC continues to work with the EPC and the candidate as we move through the process.  We hope to share more information and dates for the process in March.

  • january, 2020

    Revelation 2:1-4 & Revelation 3:15

Pray for strong consistency and focus in the present ministry of the church.

"Please grant great power to our interim pastor and to our staff. Protect us from any spirit of being luke-warm or losing our first love. Protect us from the evil one and remind us that we serve Jesus, not a pastor.”

  • december, 2019

The Pastor Nominating Committee is happy to announce that after many months of your prayers, the Lord has led us to a Senior Pastor candidate.  There are still many steps which need to be followed, but we are working closely with our advisors from the Evangelical Presbyterian Church (EPC) and continue to move forward.  The EPC process for hiring a Senior Pastor helps us to ensure that the candidate is fully anchored in sound Biblical doctrine and fully prepared to work as a Senior Pastor at Centerville.  Once we receive approval from the EPC, we will be able to bring the candidate here so you all can meet him and listen to him preach.  Unfortunately, we are unable to share the candidates name at this time, to protect him and the congregation he is currently serving.  However, God continues to lead us in this process, and if the way be clear, we hope to have a congregational vote for the next Senior Pastor in late Spring.  I know this still seems like a long way off and a long process, but rest assured, this has all been God’s timing and we continue to be in God’s hands.  But, some more good news, we are in talks with a Transitional Pastor candidate to begin working in January 2020. We are a family at Centerville, and we on the PNC are as eager as you are, to add a new member to our family.  Please continue to pray for God’s clear guidance for all those involved in this process.

You will seek me and find me when you seek me with all of your heart.  Jeremiah 29:13

Pray for the Congregation.  Pray the pastor search period will be a time the church learns to seek God Himself more than just a new pastor. Lord, teach us to draw closer to you, Jesus and trust You as the true head of the church.

  • November, 2019

A committee was formed to find a Transitional Pastor for CPC.  This committee began meeting in October and is interviewing candidates to fill this temporary position.

The PNC is continuing to work with the EPC regarding the process for the permanent Senior Pastor position.

Paul said that God "is able to do immeasurably more than all we ask or imagine" (Epesians 3:20).

We can plan and envision, but our Lord's imagination far transcends our plans.

Pray for PNC and our church to wholeheartedly trust our LORD and keep praying as He is planning the future of CPC

  • October, 2019

Session, MSR, and the PNC met with representatives from the EPC to discuss how best to move forward, caring for Pastors Greg and Marsha along with the CPC congregation.  It was decided that a committee of four individuals, working with Rhea Serpan from the EPC, will  meet to interview and select a transitional pastor.  This pastor will help to bridge the gap between Pastor Greg and the hiring of the new Senior Pastor.  The timing of when exactly this transitional pastor will start is in the Lord’s hands, but we will have someone in place no later than November 24.  This individual will NOT be considered for the Senior Pastor position, but they will be here full time on a temporary basis to help us move forward.  We pray that the Lord will lead us and guide as we continue to pursue His will for this church.

Pray for our church, asking to be led by the Holy Spirit in all that we do in the preparation of the person our Lord has chosen to be our new pastor.
Pray that we have eyes to see, ears to hear, and hearts open to receive His wisdom and guidance, and for the assurance that He will reveal His perfect plan.

John 15:16-17  You did not choose me, but I chose you and appointed you so that you might go and bear fruit—fruit that will last—and so that whatever you ask in my name the Father will give you. This is my command: Love each other.

  • September, 2019

We are continuing to meet, pray, and interview the candidates that the Lord is bringing forward.  The Pastoral Nominating Committee has been speaking with Vanderbloemen and representatives from the EPC, and they are praying for us all and continuing to work hard on our behalf.  There are many people praying for our church and this entire process.  We are in the Lords hands, and his timing is best.

Pray for the PNC and the church to hope in God and seek Him wholeheartedly with the realization that He is in control of the church's future.

"For I know the plans I have you, " declares the Lord, plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.  Then you will call on me and come and pray to me, and I will listen to you.  You will seek me and find me when you seek me with all your heart."  Jeremiah 29:  11-13

  • August, 2019

The committee has been meeting with Vanderbloemen and has been interviewing new candidates.  The EPC continues to work closely with the PNC to help us through the process.

Please pray for the PNC to wait for the LORD's timing and listen to his guidance as they continue through the process of searching and interviewing the candidates.

"If you remain in me and my words remain in you, ask whatever you wish, and it will be done for you.  This is to my Father's glory, that you bear much fruit, showing yourselves to be my disciples."  John 15:7-8

  • July, 2019

Please pray for our church to wholeheartedly trust our Lord in the search process.  "Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding: in all your ways submit to Him."  Proverbs 3:5-6

The PNC has been meeting with Vanderbloemen and interviewing new candidates.  In God's timing, He will bring us our new pastor.

  • MAY/JUNE, 2019

God's hand has continued to lead the PNC.  We have met and interviewed a slate of candidates.  God has not revealed His next pastor for CPC at this time, but we are continuing to be prayerful in the process.  We are working with Vanderbloemen and will be looking at new potential candidates soon.  The Lord continues to guide and lead and will bring our next Senior Pastor in His time.

The Pastor Nominating Committee (PNC) requests all CPC brothers and sisters to participate in Fasting & Praying together on Saturday, June 29th. (Fasting is optional, but if you can, please skip breakfast.)

We will gather in the sanctuary from 10:00 am - 11:00 am to pray for our church. Please read Psalm 23 and mediate on it before you come.

For more information contact the church office at 793-3575 x10.

The Vine and the Branches  John 15:1-8

“I am the true vine, and my Father is the gardener.  He cuts off every branch in me that bears no fruit, while every branch that does bear fruit he prunes so that it will be even more fruitful.  You are already clean because of the word I have spoken to you.  Remain in me, as I also remain in you. No branch can bear fruit by itself; it must remain in the vine. Neither can you bear fruit unless you remain in me.

“I am the vine; you are the branches. If you remain in me and I in you, you will bear much fruit; apart from me you can do nothing.  If you do not remain in me, you are like a branch that is thrown away and withers; such branches are picked up, thrown into the fire and burned.  If you remain in me and my words remain in you, ask whatever you wish, and it will be done for you.  This is to my Father’s glory, that you bear much fruit, showing yourselves to be my disciples.

  • APRIL, 2019

The Vanderbloemen Search Group has received more than 50 applications for the position of Senior Pastor at CPC.  The Pastoral Nominating Committee (PNC) is currently in the process of reviewing and interviewing the top group of candidates.  This process takes a great deal of time, because it includes reviewing resumes, reading blogs, and listening to numerous sermons.  But God is in control of the process and the PNC is now carefully considering and praying through all of the information.  The next steps will involve speaking with the candidates to better understand whether or not they will be a good fit for CPC.  To protect the confidentiality of the candidates the PNC is unable to release names or other information.  Please continue to pray for the church, the PNC, the prospective candidates, and Pastors Greg and Marsha as we continue down God’s path for our church.

Pray for PNC members to seek God’s wisdom as they review resumes and begin to interview potential pastoral candidates.

  • MARCH, 2019

The PNC met with staff from Vanderbloemen for our “Mid-Point” meeting.  Vanderbloemen shared they are continuing to talk with potential candidates and collect information.  Candidates may be presented to the PNC sometime in early spring.  The PNC is also continuing to keep staff from the EPC updated regarding the process.

Pray that the posting of the job for our future Senior Pastor will touch the right candidate that our LORD has chosen.

  • February, 2019

On Saturday, February 23, 2019 at 11:00AM, we will be having a Fasting Prayer Time for CPC.  This time of prayer and worship will be held in the sanctuary.  We invite all to come and prayer together!  Fasting is optional, but if you are able, skip breakfast as you prepare for a time of prayer.

  • January, 2019

The Pastor Nominating Committee continued to meet through the first few weeks of December.  The committee was praying and working together to complete the necessary information for Vanderbloemen and the EPC.  In mid December, the Committee received final approval of the official Church Information Form from Session.  This document along with other background details, information, photos, and a video were submitted to Vanderbloemen and the EPC.  Vanderbloemen has posted the position and is actively working on the recruitment.  The EPC is also continuing to work with CPC to post the position.  The committee has been fasting and praying in January as we wait to hear back from Vanderbloemen with prospective candidates.

  • December, 2018

We have prayerfully been working with Vanderbloemen and the EPC on building a search profile.  We have submitted various documents and needed information.  Vanderbloemen and the EPC continue to be in prayer with us through the process.

We are requesting prayers from all CPC brothers and sisters. Prayer is the most important part during this search. It is vital that we keep Christ at the center.

Please pray regularly for Pastor nominating Committee For:

“Ask and it will be given to you; Seek and you will find; knock and the door will be opened to you. For everyone who asks receives, the one who seeks finds; and to the one who knocks, the door will be opened.”   (Matthew 7:7-8)
